CAMP

"CAMP" is an ambiguous installation in the public space alluding already in its title not only to the individual's normal desire for freedom (holidays, camping) but also implying the (military and everyday) fight of survival, defense of the own territory including the necessary flight strategies. The title "CAMP" chosen for this work circumstribes the term mobility which in this context does not only mean mobility in the true sense of the word but describes for instance the dream of freedom and independence, just up to flight: Flight from society, flight from the ego. Synonym of the "flight idea" is the helicopter. In and on it all necessary things can be stowed and transported to any imaginable places. Finally it's the old dream of flying, the realisation of which might present incredible possibilities to the human being.

CAMP invades public spaces temporarily. It is both: a sculpture against the background of the history of art and a stage for social and artistic activities.

Curator and producer: Christian Schoen.

On the premisis of a building at Munich Kurfürstenplatz recently demolished a helicopter will be landing. Around this and a mobile home transported to the site a camp is being established. The "Camp 2004 [MUC]" is the fictitious living space of the "Survivalman" and the real one of the artist. During the five to seven-day erection period the living space is built from material residues, articles of daily use, tools, etc. being compactly combined with the sculptural installation of the helicopter which itself is an assembly of most different materials. The modified interior of the mobile home as well as the cockpit of the helicopter will become an exhibition area within the object being on view. There will be an installation area within the installation.
It's significant that the camp is being built in a place which itself is still in a transitional stage. The traces of the flats that have disappeared now are still clearly visible and the new living spaces will soon be erected. The realisation of the "Camp 2004 [MUC]" is due to the project scholarship of the Biehler-von Dorrer-Foundation and supported by Baywobau. Next year the "Camp" can be visited in Berlin and most likely also in Hamburg.
